Dr. Funke Oyebanjo Obituary
It is with great sadness that NAHEMI announces the devastating news that our dear friend and colleague, Dr. Funke Oyebanjo, also known as Anuoluwapo Olufunke Oyebanjo, a committed academic, talented screenwriter, educator and researcher passed away on the 7th of August.
Funke was a lovely and caring person, a wonderful colleague and will be a great loss to the NAHEMI Executive Board and the wider film education and academic community.
Funke was a joy to work with and made a significant contribution to the work we do at NAHEMI in fostering collaboration, and promoting innovation in film education.
She was a Senior Lecturer on the BA Film and Television programme at London College of Communication and previously taught at University of Greenwich. She is known for her television script "The Window" produced for Channel Four’s Coming Up season; her writing on episodes of "The Governor" (Season Two) for Netflix; and her work with BBC Writer’s Room, BBC World Service, the UK Film Council, and Creative England.
Funke was 58 years old, a devoted mother who had struggled with cancer for some time, she will be deeply missed but will remain in our thoughts. She is survived by her daughter Tomi.
A GoFundMe page to help with the cost of her funeral has been set up, please follow the link if you wish to donate: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-us-say-goodbye-to-our-beloved-funke-oyebanjo?lang=en_GB
